Good Times....

Our Goal

UMBRA is a club built up of members who simply love rocketry and engineering! We currently have around 140 members from the College of Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona.

We want to improve our own skills and the skills of others around us to be more equipped for the needs of industry. We do this by building rockets, manufacturing in house, programming, and computer-aided design and simulation.

Our Story

UMBRA started in 2009 from some Aerospace Engineering students who were involved in a senior project called NASA Student Launch. This project is a national competition to build a rocket with specific engineering challenges and to meet in Huntsville, Alabama every April to compete.

As a school affiliated group, they needed to find ways to find funding for their project and the only way to do that was to be called a club: Que the creation of "UMBRA". UMBRA is short for Undergraduate Missiles Ballistics and Rocketry Association yet we have gotten to the missiles part yet... It's first year, it was a club of about 9 students who were soon graduating. Through patienceĀ and perseverence, UMBRA has grown to be one of the College of Engineering's biggest clubs with over 130 members and still growing.

We have grown to have 5-6 projects underneath us, and training students every year the safe and thorough practice of high-powered rocketry and how it can make everyone more equipped as an engineer.
